For small areas, excavate it yourself and for larger area call any excavating professional. For a backyard patio or walkway, remove only the loose topsoil and sod. Before digging the area, please ensure that there are no underground cables or pipes.

- Leave small space and place the pavers directly screed beds. Lay pavers along the longest straight side of the area to keep lines straight and to minimize the amount of cutting required.
- You need to cut the paver that do not fix along the edges. You can use Guillotine cutter or masonry saw in order to shape pavers correctly.
- Edge restraints are a critical element as they prevent pavers from shifting over the time.
- Use plate compactor to settle the pavers into the bedding course and to create a smooth flat finish.
