A hill is a landform that extends above the surrounding terrain; the landform is in a restricted area. Planning for landscaping a hill would be not easy. An appropriate landscaping is really tough for a person. Thus draw the stretch on the plain paper first and then execute it on the ground.

Setting the plan for landscaping a hill

  • Steepness is important factor while deciding the area for the hill. Thus if the area is very steep, add some terracing to it. Terracing would make the area more manageable and avoid the chances for land sliding in that area. Make the series of terrace flat so that the steps become suitable for seating and more plantations too. Add several small plants at these steps like crops planted for terrace farming.
  • If you have large budget for landscaping a hill, paved areas could be linked by stepped or ramped pathways and it could also include some flat flower gardens on the same hill.  If you are interested in making the task simple leave the series of steps for seating only.
  • Sloping garden is another option for hill. Combine the garden with wild flowers, substantial water feature. You can include the plants having long stem and place rock to support them on hillside.
  • The pump installed at the water feature should be of good quality to circulate the water efficiently at the slope level.
  • The drainage part of hill is uncommon as ground. The top soil of hill drains all the water to the bottom thus plant the plants carefully. It is always advisable to plant the less water requirement plants at the top and more water requirement plants at the bottom of the soil. Plant cactus at the top of the hill garden.

Thus you can decide your plantation theme according to the water requirement. Sketch whole plan on paper and then establish the hill garden for yourself. Hill garden are useful in area more prone to land slides or soil erosion.
